Newer is the European University Faculty of Medicine that came to be just 6 years back. Though the smell of fresh paint is nice, it is no criterion to choose a University that is going to shape your career. The European University is a Private University whose infrastructure comprises of 2 buildings for academics and administration and 1 dormitory for students. At this point in time, this fledgling of a University holds the capacity of catering to 500 students only which is all inclusive. That is to draw your attention to the fact that in the 4 functional disciplines in the European University – Law, Research on Globalization, Archeology, and of course, Medicine – the total number of students that can be accommodated at this time is 500.

Another fact to make one uncomfortable is the dearth of proper Clinical exposure when you opt to do your MBBS from the European University Faculty of Medicine. Now, it is a logical conclusion to draw that a good doctor is made by adequate Clinical Exposure and not by scoring well in theory. The European University Faculty of Medicine has no captive Hospital. Instead it has “…tie-ups with about 60 Clinics in Georgia…” 

European University official website states that in the discipline of Medicine, the University offers seats for Dentistry and the Medical Doctor Program MD (equivalent to MBBS) in English as well as the Georgian language. 

The European University World Ranking is, as expected from such a new University, very low. It is 10170th while the European University Country Ranking in Georgia is 26th. The university has been ranked B grade, owing to the mediocre standard of education at the university. The duration of MBBS program including Internship is 5.8 years.

Challenges Of Studying In European University

The European University is a University in Georgia and studying at all Medical Universities in Georgia, though heavily promoted by agents, are replete with hurdles that have serious consequences:

1. The most alarming fact that every Indian student and parent should understand is that there is NO INDIAN EMBASSY in Georgia. It is indeed a major issue because if an Indian finds himself/herself in any kind of jeopardy, he/she will have nowhere to go to for settling grievances.
2. In general, the curriculum followed at Georgian Universities includes very little Clinical exposure which is never a good thing when it comes to judging the standard of learning Medicine.
3. As mentioned above, at the European University the Medicine Curriculum began to be taught as late as 1995. That may be a point of concern because it is rightfully recommended that it is always better to choose Universities that are ‘well-versed’ in teaching the curriculum you select.
4. The European University Fees may not be very high but the living cost at Georgia is steep. With the quality of education and standard of the Universities, the extravagant living cost at Georgia makes no sense.
5. As we warned above, due to relative ease with which the agents can make money through this, they promote Georgia taking advantage of the fact that Georgia is the name of a US state also. There is NO CONNECTION between Georgia, the country and the US state.

Principally, there are 2 Degree levels for which the European University Faculty of Medicine takes students in. As mentioned above, the University teaches Dentistry and General Medicine at the Undergraduate level.

PG in Germany after MBBS in abroad is another great option, though it requires you to learn the German language. Of the 6 levels starting from A1 to C2, you need to clear A1 and A2 that would qualify you to apply for visa.
