Guangzhou Medical University Location: Guangzhou, China
The city of Guangzhou is also known as Canton and Kwongchow locally. As it is the capital of Guangdong province in southern China, the infrastructure and amenities are great. The city is the center of that zone of mainland China that is the most populated. The city holds sub-provincial status and it also features among China’s 9 National Central Cities. These facts guarantee good amenities due to good administration. In fact, the city is so populated that the real estate cost is sky-high, comparable to cities like Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzen. In 2015, Guangzhou ranked as the best commercial city in mainland China.
The Guangzhou Medical University is operational since 1958. This means that the University has been conferring degrees in medicine for almost 7 decades. The medium of instruction has been Chinese until recently. The University admits students to various programs, undergraduate and graduate. The University has existed long enough to gain trust and it has expanded to 2 separate campus locations – Yuexiu and Panyu campuses.
The principal disciplines that are taught and researched at the Guangzhou Medical University include Public Health, Pharmacy, Stomatology, Nursing, Mental Health, Pediatrics, and the various Clinical Schools. There is ample exposure to patients in the Chinese Universities and the things are not otherwise in case of Guangzhou Medical University too. GMU has direct affiliation with 7 large hospitals and indirect associations with 10 others.
The Guangzhou Medical University official website states that the University “…has carried out extensive collaborations in Research, Teaching, and Training with renowned foreign Ubiversities… (the University) has undertaken substantial progress in medical education, research and health care…” However, as can be expected, the Guangzhou Medical University admission criteria are stringent as mentioned under a separate heading below.
Currently, Guangzhou Medical University medical programs include MD/MS and PHD specialties in the disciplines mentioned above. Guangzhou Medical U
niversity World Ranking is 8440th among all Universities in World. The Guangzhou Medical University ranking in China is 479th.
The Guangzhou Medical University official website establishes that the University “…offers excellent M.Sc. programs and Ph.D programs…a postdoctoral research station for clinical medicine …”
As stated above, the Guangzhou Medical University has association with international Universities. Some of the famous names in this list are “…University of Edinburgh, University of Birmingham, University of Toronto, California State University Northridge, Harvard Medical School, Columbia University, and many more…”
We do not cast a doubt on the fact that the Guangzhou Medical University is a good University. But perhaps, it is so for the Chinese students as the University has been teaching Medicine in the Chinese language for over 6 decades. The situation is contrasting when it comes to those students who must study in English. The Guangzhou Medical University started taking International students and teaching in English as late as 2010.
This is far more impactful than it sounds. A Medical University, or any University for that manner, is only good enough if it has a set pattern and structure of running a particular program. It is extremely important how many years of experience the University as a whole has in conducting classes of a particular program. For all purposes, the Guangzhou Medical University has an experience of merely 11 years in teaching Medicine in English.
Perhaps this is the reason that the world ranking of the Guangzhou Medical University is as low as 8440th. But it is difficult to explain why the ranking of the University in China itself is as low as 479th. Keeping up with our firm policy of never jeopardizing the careers of the students who trust us and become a part of the Overseas Eduversity family, we do not recommend this University and advise you to go for more well-ranked Universities like Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and Jiangsu University.

The Guangzhou Medical University intake is no different. However, there could be some variation due to COVID 19 but we Overseas Eduversity will take care of all the confusion for you.
We say that the timing of application is crucial because the issuance of the Invitation Letter by the Ministry of Education, China takes around 4-8 weeks on the basis of which the Chinese Consulate in India issues the visa to you. The Guangzhou Medical University is a name that has been hyped to be a good destination for Indian students. At present, the number of Indian students studying there is above 50, which is quite a number.
However, the poor country and world ranking and the recent introduction of the English-taught program in the Guangzhou Medical University should be kept in mind while opting for Guangzhou Medical University MBBS.
The system for healthcare professionals or physicians in USA is closely monitored by ECFMG which conducts USMLE in a systematic manner. Indian students trying to pursue post-graduation in USA after completion of MBBS from China need to prove themselves at every level again.
While doing MBBS in China, you will have to appear USMLE Step-1and USMLE Step-2CK. Though, this exam is highly competitive, it is much less so when compared to the Indian NEET PG. The exam is online and can be given from India at any time.

PG in Germany after MBBS in China is another great option, though it requires you to learn the German language. Of the 6 levels starting from A1 to C2, you need to clear A1 and A2 that would qualify you to apply for visa.
Once the Language formalities are done, you get into the phase where you do Observer-ship from a German hospital approved by the German Medical Council. This is followed by Residency.
This may sound simple here but the process is quite complicated. To know more about PG in Germany after your MBBS in China,
